Three demonstrators in diverse areas of piezoelectric devices and manufacturing techniques have been defined and preliminary performance calculations are being made:
A 4th demonstrator topic is yet to be defined, but is most likely to come from the domain of aerospace and involve composites with integrated sensing capabilities.
- A sensor, an integrated switch, will be made through injection moulding. Cooperation with SmartPie colleagues such as d-Switch is considered.
- An energy scavenging device for an automobile tyre is expected to be made with thick film technology.
- An actuator, a micropump for microfluidics or drug delivery, as a thin film device.
